Two highly modified methyl-linderone dimers, bi-linderone (1) and linderaspirone A (2) were isolated from the roots of Lindera aggregata, a famous traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. They possess an unprecedented spirocyclopentenedione-containing carbon skeleton and showed significant activity against glucosamine-induced insulin resistance in HepG2 cells at a concentration of 1 μg/mL.
